There are more ways to listen to music today than ever before some people love streaming for its convenience what others have hard drives full of high-resolution audio. At the same time, a whole new generation is falling in love with vinyl. Today we are going to review the Naim Uniti Atom brand new integrated amplifier and wireless music system makes it simple listen to music anywhere you want.
When we saw the Naim Uniti Atom almost a year ago at CES we were blown away by its feature set and good looks. Now that we have our own and have tested it out we are equally impressed with this performance. If you see name’s Mu-so or Mu-so Qb wireless music systems, then the style may feel familiar to you. It’s about half the width of a standard component and has brushed black aluminum casing. The front features a solid glass panel. Other than a few well-placed buttons and inputs on the front. The panel is dominated by a gorgeous full-color 5-inch LCD Display. The large illuminated volume dial is recessed into the top of the unit. Aside from looking great, it’s also ultra-smooth and extremely precise. Everything is first class from the buttons and connections to the huge toroidal power transformer. The thin aluminum heat sinks on the back even hide the built-in Wi-Fi antenna, allowing great reception without distracting from the look. All in all, the combination of a gorgeous modern design and impeccable both quality makes the Uniti Atom an impressive machine.
In this review, we are going to touch on the few of the features the Atom but honestly, this thing is jam-packed, for now, we’ll only get over a few of the details and features here. Today there are more options than ever when it comes to ways that you can enjoy music. sometimes it can be simply overwhelming, Atom doesn’t force you to compromise. The option includes Chromecast, Airplay, Bluetooth, Tidal, Spotify Connect, Internet Radio, UPnP for your local music files, 3 digital inputs, and an analog input. You can also have the option to connect a USB storage drive for access up to 20K additional songs.
The Atom can easily play back just about any file type and also supports high-resolution music. To control the Naim Uniti Atom you can use the buttons on the front the handheld remote which included in the box or a personal favorite the Naim App. Once you pick your source the names world-class audio circuitry takes over delivering amazing audio quality. The power amplifier in the Uniti Atom is rated at 40W per channel, please do not let that spec throw you for a loop.
Naim has always rated everything they make very conservatively. If you pull the cover of the Uniti Atom and take a look at the Toroidal power transformer inside. It’s clear that the Uniti Atom has a strength to power most speakers.
When we test products we like to push them to the maximum level. To test the Naim Uniti Atom we decided to pair with Aerial 5t. A large bookshelf speaker from one of our best speakers, Aerial Acoustics. Aerial 5t are amazing and sound awesome, but can be a real challenge to drive if you don’t have a gusty amplifier.
We connected the Uniti Atom via WiFi and logged into our Spotify account, and we were ready to rock hard. And rock we did! From the very first note, this is one special piece of gear. The first thing that was obvious to us was the bass control. The Aerial 5t has awesome bass for a bookshelf speaker, but if the amplifier is not up to the mark, it will out of control and sound weird.
The soundstage was also very up to the mark. This sound system could drift a vocalist front and center while layering the instruments all the way across and behind them, the image extending ours beyond the speakers. The sound was effortless and smooth. Never a feeling of solidity or pressure to the music.
